Tuesday, January 24, 2017
A new report suggests that Apple is developing advanced biometric security technology for the upcoming generation of iPhones.

The state-of-the-art software could include facial recognition and advanced fingerprint sensing, according to new a KGI Securities report.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo writes that the facial recognition technology is expected to ultimately replace Touch ID, the current fingerprint-based system that allows users to unlock their phone without entering a passcode.

If the tech giant is unable to perfect the advanced facial recognition software ahead of the next iPhone's expected September release, Kuo suggests that "a combination of fingerprint and facial recognition is another possible solution" for the next phone.

Kuo adds that Apple is likely moving away from iris recognition software, which identifies users by their eyes.
