How to save money on renovations from Hurricane Harvey flooding

Friday, September 8, 2017
BELLAIRE, Texas (KTRK) -- Tens of thousands of families are in the renovate and rebuild stage after Hurricane Harvey flooded their homes.

Many people are having to work with general contractors to help with the recovery process, but make sure you reach out to several to get different bids.

A local designer added that it's best to tell your contractor exactly what you want done to the house because they could end up charging you more. She said each contractor's vision is not the same.

"It's always better to come up with a design plan first," said Lisa Goe with the Luxe Designer.

There are some things you can do yourself without having to hire a general contractor that could save you money.

Goe said to be your own contractor and hire a plumber, electrician, drywall guy, etc. for the projects. She said doing that could save you up to 20 percent.
