Harvey victims are home for the holiday thanks to volunteers and JJ Watt

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A long-standing wish for Hurricane Harvey victims is to be home for Christmas. While many are not going to have that, one family certainly will, thanks to an army of volunteers.

One southeast Houston home off Marleen Street would not be ready to be lived in if not for those volunteers. They took less than 60 days to remodel this flooded home and the people who live here are extremely grateful.

After the storm, like so many homes in the area, the dry wall had to be removed and nearly everything in the home was destroyed.

Volunteers from Americorps, SBP, Toyota and many others got to work fixing the Garcia family home.

It looks fabulous and the family is so happy to be home for the holidays.

"It's a big relief, just to come home after a long day of work and to sit on the sofa," said Sylvia Garcia. "I like looking at the tree, so that feels good."

SBP received $8 million from the JJ Watt Foundation to help rebuild homes in Houston.

SBP has at least another 100 homes to renovate and we are told that thanks to them and all the volunteers, two more families will be home for Christmas as well.
