Freeway reopens over 4 hours after man hit and killed on I-45 southbound at Memorial Drive

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Traffic was slow-moving on Friday morning after a man was hit and killed on the I-45 Gulf Freeway near downtown Houston.

Houston police said the deadly crash happened at 300 Gulf Freeway southbound near Memorial Drive at 5:50 a.m.

All southbound lanes were closed, causing major delays for drivers. The freeway didn't completely reopen until 10:30 a.m., according to Houston Transtar.

HPD said the pedestrian attempted to run across the freeway when he was struck by a black Ford F-150. The driver stayed at the scene and was questioned. Police determined the driver was not intoxicated and they were released, HPD said.

Police did not release the pedestrian's name or age. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
