HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- With the help of Houston Pets Alive, a dog shot in the face is on her way to recovery.

Ava was shot in the face in the days after Hurricane Harvey.

"She had received no medical attention. No pain medication," Miranda Hitchcock said.

The dog has spent time at the HPA shelter in southwest Houston after her owner turned her over.
