Lightning may have caused 2-alarm Westchase-area apartment fire, HFD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- While investigators haven't concluded on a cause of a two-alarm fire that damaged eight apartments, Houston Fire Department is looking at the possibility that lightning sparked the flames.

The incident was reported Friday afternoon at 2828 Walnut Bend Lane, which is between Westheimer Road and Meadowglen Lane. A search of the address points to the Warwick at Westchase complex.

Fortunately, no firefighter or civilian injuries were reported, HFD said. Residents were able to escape safely and all pets were accounted for.

Crews on the scene said it took about an hour to control and put out the fire in the midst of stifling humidity.

An arson investigation team was called to the apartment complex. ABC13, though, acknowledged that storms over head may have led to a lightning-caused event.

The cause of the fire is still not confirmed yet.
