A team looking into the rise in so-called 'Glock switches' had developed a suspect as part of their investigation.

HPD Assistant Chief Thomas Hardin told ABC13 that police had learned the 19-year-old suspect was at the mall and was armed. The man, whose identity has not been released, was wanted on an open felony warrant for criminal mischief out of Beaumont. We're told he has a lengthy criminal history.

Hardin said the suspect was walking out of the mall and as he went to get into his vehicle, officers closed in and ordered him to show his hands. The man reportedly opened the door, and moved for a weapon, when an officer fired one round, striking the vehicle.

At that point, the suspect showed his hands and gave himself up to officers. Two other adults in the car at the time were detained for questioning.

Police say they recovered a Glock handgun with a 'Glock switch' modification and ammunition from the car.

The warrant the man was arrested for was not directly linked to the 'Glock switches.' Police said they are actively running more warrants daily as part of an effort get violent criminals off the streets as quickly as possible.
