At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the 9900 block of S. Dairy Ashford, where an apartment complex manager found a man on the ground in the parking lot.
When HPD officers arrived, they confirmed the man was dead. His cause of death was not immediately released, but Det. David Crowder said the man's injuries appeared to be "pretty traumatic to the head, likely a gunshot."
Police believe the victim may have been robbed as his pockets were turned outwards, and his car was taken.
As information spread around about the scene, plainclothes officers were near the South Beltway and Gessner, where they found the victim's car. The officers tried to stop the vehicle, but, instead, the suspects led police on a short chase into Sugar Land, which ended near Highway 6.
The suspects then jumped out of the car, but police were able to find them behind a Whole Foods.
Police said the car involved in the chase belonged to the victim found dead on S. Dairy Ashford, but it's unclear how the suspects came into possession of it.
The victim has not been identified, but police said he's a Hispanic man in his 30s.
The case remains under investigation.
