The officers turned toward the shooting and saw three males, including the 16-year-old victim, on the sidewalk. At that point, police said the young victim was down, and one suspect ran northbound while another ran southbound on Fulton.
Officers split up, with one checking on the victim and the other running toward one of the suspects.
"We have one detained," Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite said. "We have one at the hospital, and the third one our officers saw was not taken into custody. He went northbound, and we don't know where he went."
Authorities said an officer applied a tourniquet to the injured 16-year-old, who was then taken to the hospital.
A firearm was reportedly found at the scene, and an investigation continues.
