The Houston Police Department said the two-vehicle crash unfolded at about 6 p.m. in the 7000 block of Waxahachie at Boyles Street, which is about a quarter mile north of the I-10 East Freeway, in the Denver Harbor area.

According to HPD Assistant Chief Chandra Hatcher, a man driving a white SUV was eastbound on Waxahachie when he hit a power pole and then proceeded through an intersection with a stop sign. That was when the SUV hit a black four-door vehicle going northbound on Boyles.
Both vehicles came to rest close by where the impact occurred, police said.
A man behind the wheel and a woman riding in the black vehicle died at the scene. A boy also in the vehicle was rushed to the hospital as a precaution, where he's stable.
Hatcher said officers observed signs of intoxication on the SUV driver, who was also sent to the hospital but with no visible injuries, though, he complained of physical pain.
The HPD Vehicular Crimes Unit was called out to investigate.

Hatcher added that they were still looking into the victims' relationship with the boy, but they have reason to believe there is a familial relationship.
The crash also impacted homes nearby. Power went out when the SUV slammed into the pole. It wasn't immediately known when power would be restored.
