A researcher with Houston Methodist Hospital led the study that found patients of female surgeons were four percent less likely to die, be readmitted or experience complications 30 days after their surgery.
The doctors were matched by age and experience.
The study included all of the people in Ontario, Canada who had operations from 2007 to 2015, more than 104,000, in total.
Researchers believe it's because the very best women in medicine become surgeons after overcoming higher barriers in the male-dominated field.
