Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said there was an argument between two adult stepbrothers, apparently over a car battery.

The argument escalated, and Gonzalez said one of the stepbrothers, 45-year-old Tim Lee Ehrlich, grabbed a crossbow and fired a single shot at 52-year-old Brandon Lane Little, hitting him in the upper torso.

Ehrlich reportedly told deputies he feared Little was going to attack him,

Little was taken to the hospital via Life Flight. In a later update, Gonzalez said Little was in serious but stable condition.

Ehrlich was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

The investigation into what led up to the crossbow being fired is ongoing.
