I-45 reopens after deadly hit-and-run crash with pedestrian sparked hourslong closure

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A deadly crash investigation on the Gulf Freeway Friday morning caused major delays for drivers.

Houston police responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash in the 4400 block of I-45 near Lockwood around 5:10 a.m.

A man was hit by an unknown vehicle and killed, police said.

Police believe a vehicle traveling northbound struck the pedestrian. Investigators were unsure if the man was attempting to cross the freeway or walking on the shoulder.

The driver did not stop and render aid, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Investigators did not know the make or model of the wanted vehicle.

All northbound lanes of the freeway and the exit ramp to I-69 reopened just after 8:40 a.m.
