Gas well blow out causes foul odor in Missouri City

Wednesday, December 6, 2017
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston firefighters are monitoring the air along Lake Olympia Parkway and the Fort Bend Toll Road after a gas well blow out.

Crews responded to the scene on McHard Road, just off the tollway after initial reports of an incident at an oil well.

Missouri City officials said there is no threat to residents and no evacuations have been ordered.

Houston Office of Emergency Management officials described the smell as being similar to petroleum or rotten eggs.

They also said the smell is likely to remain the area for the next day or two until the issue is contained.

We do not know what caused the blow out.
