HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- For Friday Flyover, ABC13 headed to St. Pius X, where the Panthers are always in formation.

The football and baseball team of St. Pius X recently went above and beyond helping a neighbor in need.

Alison McGuire and her husband's home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey.

"I will never forget what they did for us," McGuire said. "It was a smell that I've never experienced before. It smelled rotten, mildew, and just water on the floor, dirty water."

The couple was forced to evacuate their home when water levels grew.

"I was at the point we were trying to contain the water by getting Solo cups and emptying it out in a bucket, and emptying that out in the sink," she said.

They evacuated, finding shelter at St. Pius X.

"Having to walk away with just a bag in hand, it's an awful feeling," said McGuire.

When water levels receded, the couple went back to salvage what was left of their home.

To their surprise, Pius X football and baseball teams were waiting with helping hands.

"I don't even think they realize just the positive impact they did for us in doing what they did," said McGuire.

The teams helped rip out drywall and soaked carpet.

"When a disaster happens, everyone comes together. It seems like there's more love than hatred in the world," said team members.
