Dozens wait in line for pies ahead of Thanksgiving

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A familiar line is growing outside a popular pie shop before Thanksgiving.

Every year, we see hundreds line up outside Flying Saucer Pie Co., in northwest Houston, as the clock ticks down to the holiday.

This is one of the city's most popular places to get dessert.

Over the weekend, we saw a line of people that formed around the block, hoping to get a one-of-a-kind pie for Thanksgiving.

By Wednesday morning, people were camping out. Some even had tents, blankets and chairs to make sure they could scoop up the company's signature dishes like strawberry creme cheesecake and pecan.

"It's more of a tradition. She's been doing it 18 years. I've been doing it for about eight. We come out here, stay overnight to be one of the first to get our pies," said customer Mario Rodriguez.

Customer Sophia Guerrero says she shops on Black Friday, too, so between waiting for pie and hopping to three different houses on Thanksgiving, when does she rest?

"Probably Saturday. I'll probably lay down for a couple of hours and recuperate from all of this," Guerrero told ABC13.

But as long there's pie, there's no problem.

"They're good. To me, it's worth the wait. We love them," Guerrero said.

Flying Saucer is open Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. while supplies last.
