HPD investigating after 80-year-old runs red light, dies in 2-vehicle crash in Museum District

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are still investigating a crash that left an 80-year-old driver dead in Houston's Museum District on Wednesday.

Houston police said the incident happened at about 10:50 a.m. at 4900 Fannin St.

HPD said it all started when an 80-year-old man driving a white GMC Jimmy was going southbound on Fannin when he ran the red light at the intersection of Wichita.

A blue Volvo XC60, which had a green light, entered the intersection and hit the GMC, causing the truck to roll over and eject its driver, according to police.

Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the GMC dead. The driver of the Volvo was reportedly not injured.

Officials said the identity of the 80-year-old man is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
