3 things you need to make your marriage last 75 years or more

Wednesday, June 28, 2017
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A lot has changed about the world since Anna and Sidney Binder were blissfully wed back in 1942, but the couple said the secrets to a lasting marriage remain the same.

The couple, who live at the Parkway Place senior living community in Houston, are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today.

The high school sweethearts first met each other at a middle school dance in 1938.

After dating for four years, the couple jumped headfirst into marriage right after their high school graduation. But it wasn't long before Sidney Binder was off to Italy leaving his new bride pregnant with their first child.

So how do you stay with your spouse for 75 years or more?

The Binders say you need these three things:
  • "You have to care about the person you're married to much more than you care about yourself"
  • "You have to have a sense of humor and if you don't agree about something you have to talk about it"
  • You have to admire each other

Above all, never forget to have fun, even when the going gets tough.

"It takes two tango, as they say and if you love to tango, it will be fine," Anna Binder said.

Anna and Sidney have three children, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
