HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An investigation is underway after a car slammed into the side of the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office on Tuesday.

The constable's office posted pictures on X, formerly known as Twitter, of the vehicle's front end plowed into the Lakewood Forest Fund HOA section of the building, which is conjoined with the constable substation.

Constable deputies said the crash happened at about 1:17 p.m. at the building located in the 12100 block of Malcomson Road.

In surveillance video obtained by ABC13, a dark grey Lexus SUV could be seen crossing the median on Louetta Road and smashing into the building.

Constable Mark Herman said that emergency services responded to the scene to treat the 42-year-old driver for minor injuries and drove her to the hospital as a precaution, adding that no one else was hurt.

Two men working inside the HOA office told ABC13 that they were lucky to be alive.

"All of a sudden, we just heard this huge explosion," Scott Johnson, the treasurer of the HOA, said. "At first, I thought it was a gas explosion, but with the constable office upstairs, I thought it was maybe a terrorist attack. Just looked over there. There was a car in the office."

Miraculously, Johnson and his colleague moved to the neighboring cubicle to look at some documents minutes before the crash. Had they not moved, they would have been hurt or possibly even killed.

"Any day you have something like this happen and you're not hurt, it's a good day," he said.

Authorities noted that the fire department responded to the scene because a gas line was hit. The constable's office did not specify whether the gas line affected residents in the area.
