HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Police believe drive-by shooting that injured a father in northeast Houston was random.

The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. outside the Blue Steel Lounge on Homestead Drive.

Investigators say a man had dropped off a family member and was circling the block with his daughter when the shooting started.

He was shot and taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. The girl was not hit.

It is believed that the shooting was random and the vehicle was not targeted.

And ABC13 was on the scene as the Houston Police Department worked to secure the area around the shooting and an officer's cruiser was rear-ended.

That officer was inside the vehicle when it was hit by an SUV but suffered only minor injuries.

The driver was suspected of being intoxicated.

No word on any charges being filed in the shooting or crash.
