HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Astros pitcher David Paulino has been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, the league announced Saturday.

Boldenone, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid, was found in Paulino's system, according to an MLB statement obtained by ESPN.

Paulino's suspension is effective immediately, and he will be ineligible for the postseason.

"We are disappointed in the news today regarding David Paulino. We hope this is a one-time incident and something David can learn from as he continues his career," Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said in a statement. "The Astros will continue to fully support Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program."
