Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputies said they responded to Texas Children's Hospital for a child being shot due to a "road rage incident."
When deputies arrived, they worked with Houston police, who told them they began investigating the report believing it happened in their jurisdiction, FBCSO said.
After further investigation, deputies said the alleged road rage shooting might have happened in the 25000 block of Tancy Ranch Court.
In a later update, deputies said they went to the family's home and found signs of blood after getting the report from the hospital.
The child's dad, identified as 25-year-old Gendri Aguillon, allegedly told authorities at the hospital this was a road rage incident as he was driving on I-10 when someone shot his son.
Deputies said Aguillon's story was vague and he couldn't answer simple questions.
FBCSO said the child's grandmother told deputies the shooting actually happened in their home.
Aguillon was booked into jail and was charged with injury to a child and making a false report.
Officials said in a release that possible mishandling of a firearm contributed to the child's injury but no additional information was provided.
The 4-year-old sustained one gunshot wound to the arm and is in stable condition.
Aguillon was given a $750 bond.
