The two are scheduled to fight in Las Vegas on May 6 under Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. The tour is stopping in four cities: Mexico City, New York City, Los Angeles and Houston.
Fights are often sold on the trash-talking, and Thursday there was some of that.
Chavez Jr. offered some praise and then criticism of his opponent.
"I see a good fighter," said Chavez Jr. "He is more famous than a great fighter."
Through an interpreter, Canelo responded, "We will see. We will see May 6. If that is what he thinks, I hope he doesn't come over confident, because if he does, that is a big mistake."
Canelo wants to keep his strategy simple -- fight his fight.
"I'll prepare myself 100 percent, train hard, and use all my experience and talent inside that ring, and win," he added.
