HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police say they have arrested a violent serial robber who targeted mostly Asian women with high-end purses and expensive jewelry.

The robberies and burglaries occurred in southwest Houston and Harris County.

Police say Derrick Mondell Rogers, 41, stalked and conducted surveillance on his victims before breaking into their homes.

"Investigators discovered Rogers would target Asian female victims and possibly would stalk and conduct surveillance on the victims, over the course of several days," said HPD investigator Tyrus Fontenot.

In one case, investigators say he struck a woman in the head with a brick before binding her with duct tape.

"He grabbed a woman by the throat, he zip tied her, he duct-taped her, using weapons, this is elevating the game," said investigator Russell Gray.

"He elevated his game, and also led to his capture because now we have people who have seen the person," Gray said.

Houston police say after surveillance video from that violent home invasion was released to the public, a number of tips came in that pointed to Rogers.

When they zeroed in on him, they discovered he was already accused of assaulting a woman he dated, and allegedly took her purse as well.

One victim who spoke to Eyewitness News says he and his wife were home asleep when Rogers allegedly broke in at four in the morning.

"He took my iPhone, airline tickets we were going to use, Nike shoes," said the victim. "Even some laundry detergent, and headphones."

Rogers is charged with five robberies, six burglaries, and family assault.

However, investigators believe there are more victims out there and are encouraging others to come forward.
