CLUTE, Texas (KTRK) -- A Brazosport ISD teacher, who once won the teacher of the year award, is charged with twelve counts of child sex crimes from 2007.

Brandyn Hargrove was indicted on six counts of sexual assault of a child, four counts of indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure, according to court documents.

The Police Chief of the Clute Police Department said the victim was a 15-year-old girl who was a student in 2007 and came forward to police in September about the allegations. According to Police Chief James Fitch, the incidents occurred off-campus and went on for two years.

This was an ongoing investigation that spanned over two years. Due to the victim coming forward 15 years later, the chief said witnesses played a key role in the investigation.

"Unfortunately, this happens more and more these days," Chief Fitch said. "Since that time we have other laws in effect, the improper relationship between educator and student was not in effect back then. But your kids go to school and you trust the teachers with that and then these types of things happen."

According to the district, Hargrove was placed on administrative leave in September when police informed them of the investigation. Following the charges, the district says they have "initiated employment-related actions to separate her employment."

"Please know that our responsibility to care for and protect the children entrusted to us is never taken lightly. If any parents, students, or former students have concerns, please contact Brazoswood High School Principal Rita Pintavalle or Brazosport ISD Police Chief Wade Nichols. Brazosport ISD expects the highest standard of professionalism and integrity from its employees to ensure a safe learning environment," the district's statement read, in part.

Hargrove posted her $240,000 bond, and ABC13 reached out to see whether she had any comment on the allegations. Hargrove's attorney said she has no comment.

Chief Fitch said they are not investigating any other victims, but if there are more victims, he urges them to contact the Clute Police Department.
