"I've never seen anything like this before," said Ken Spicer with SITE Auction Services. "I've never seen this large a collection of signage. This large a collection of unique memorabilia because theme parks don't go through this very often."
Bidding is now open and will conclude Feb. 23.

"We've had over 55,000 website hits in the last 48 hours," Spicer said. "We've had 400 people register for the auction. We've put 4,000 bids in already."
The items are coming from Maria Medeles, a Houston woman who says parting with her collection isn't easy.

"I'm hurting," Medeles said. "Every day I wake up, they're taking signs and I'm like, 'Where are you going with that? I like that one.' You get attached to certain things."
Medeles says she plans to use the profits to start an RV park. But if you're looking to buy AstroWorld items and make money yourself, a local memorabilia collector said you shouldn't.
"You're buying memories," Todd Nelkin said. "You're not buying fine art or stocks or bonds."

If you do buy, Nelkin, who used to own a sports collectible store at the park, hopes you treasure the goods.

"I hope whoever wins them takes really good care of them," Nelkin said. "Because for those of us who the park does matter, it is a keepsake."
Items include AstroWorld signage, memorabilia and park fixtures.
Interested buyers can view the inventory, register and place their bids on the auction website.
