Officials said the fire was first reported at about 2:15 p.m. at the Baybrook Village Apartments located at 2801 West Bay Area Blvd.
According to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, firefighters contained the fire to one building.
At the height of the fire, there were 65 to 70 responders at the scene, officials said.
Six to eight units were reportedly left with heavy fire damage, and two to three had water damage. Two people were transported to the hospital in stable condition for precautionary measures, officials said.
"As far as I know, there are no injuries that I know of, but there were some fatalities for some animals," Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department Battalion Chief Marc Faber said.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
