When paramedics arrived, they discovered he had multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators said the victim was at a bus stop with four to five other people in the 22700 block of Imperial Valley Drive near Highland Cross Drive.

A fight broke out and several shots were fired, deputies said. The man was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies believe everyone involved was between 20 and 30 years old -- possibly four men and at least one woman.

Investigators were looking for surveillance video and possible witnesses in the area. Deputies said they found multiple weapons at the scene.

During the investigation, a man reportedly walked through the crime scene. He was ordered to stop, and when he didn't, a deputy used a Taser on him, HCSO said.

The man was treated by EMS at the scene and taken into custody. Deputies said he is not a suspect in the shooting.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

While this shooting happened at a bus stop, METRO has recently dealt with several shootings that took place on a bus.

In November, in Upper Kirby, passengers got into a fight. When one of them got off the bus, officers say he opened fire into the bus, injuring a passenger.

In October, in the Med Center, an unruly passenger was arguing with the driver and another passenger got involved. After exiting the bus, officers said the unruly passenger shot into the bus, injuring the passenger he was fighting with.

"Speechless, man, because that could easily be me or the next person," bus rider, Jason Yau said. "Speechless."

METRO Police Chief Vera Bumper said these types of crimes don't happen every day. "I know that these situations can be troubling to hear about," Bumpers said. "If you look at our statistics this does not happen often."

Here are the statistics. From October of last year to September, there have been 460 major crimes, which include shootings.

Metro said they've occurred once out of every 144,000 trips. The numbers have improved from the year before when there were more than 600 major crimes.

The figures are better, but not where they were before the pandemic. The amount of major crimes is about the same, however, more people are riding the bus.

The year before the pandemic, there was one major crime for every 185,000 rides, which is better than this year.
