Deputies said the incident happened at the gun range on sheriff's office property in the 3600 block of County Road 45 in Angleton at around 2 p.m.

During a training exercise, a student accidentally discharged his handgun, striking the 30-year-old range instructor in the abdomen, the sheriff's office said.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said the wounded deputy was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann hospital for treatment of a deep flesh wound and was approved for release.
The wounded deputy has been with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office for about 10 years.
