Look what was taking a swim at Surfside Beach!

SURFSIDE BEACH, TX (KTRK) -- An alligator was spotted Saturday afternoon swimming to shore at Surfside Beach.

An abc13 viewer sent in photos of the encounter, which is bizarre because the reptiles usually are known to roam in freshwater.

It wasn't immediately clear yet how the alligator got there, if it was caught or if it just roamed back into the water.

Just a few days ago, people spotted a gator swimming near the shore at Sylvan Beach. That beach is blocked off.

Wildlife experts say gators are showing up in unusual places because of the recent floods.
