Derrick Lewis

He is happy to call Houston home. Derrick moved to H-town in 2021 as a national correspondent for the Black News Channel.
While working for the network, Derrick covered several national headlines, including Derek Chauvin's trial in the death of George Floyd, deadly storms in Louisiana and Florida, and the global pandemic.
Derrick was the go-to correspondent for major stories in Texas. He covered the Texas Heartbeat Act, Texas Democrats breaking quorum over voting rights, thousands of migrants showing up at once in El Paso to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, and more.
There was not a shortage of stories in Houston making national headlines. Derrick covered the Astroworld Festival tragedy, the deadly winter freeze and a loose tiger roaming neighborhoods.
Before moving to Houston, Derrick worked as a reporter in Miami, Raleigh-Durham and Youngstown.
He gained an interest in news while anchoring the morning announcements for four years in high school.
Derrick graduated from Temple University.
Outside of news, he loves traveling, playing video games and finding a great Houston restaurant.
Derrick and his partner have two miniature schnauzers.
