CONROE, TX -- A Montgomery County jury sentenced a former Conroe ISD police sergeant to probation after he was convicted Friday afternoon of having an improper relationship with a male student.

The jury returned the punishment verdict Friday night.

Christopher Lee Sutton, 38, will not have to register as a sex offender for having sex with a Caney Creek High School senior while working as a sergeant at The Woodlands High School, a position he later resigned from after pressure from the student's boyfriend at the time.

Sutton was found guilty on all five counts of the second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and student. But defense attorney Bill Patillo said Saturday afternoon that he is pleased the jury looked past the offensive nature of Sutton's conduct and considered his status as an otherwise law-abiding citizen.
