HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are searching for an armed man who robbed and IHOP restaurant early this morning in north Houston.

The incident occurred just before 5am at the IHOP located at 4300 North Freeway at Crosstimbers.

Police say a man pulled a gun on a restaurant manager and demanded that he open a safe. The thief reportedly became irate when he discovered there was no money inside the safe, and proceeded to pistol whip the manager. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police describe the robbery suspect as an African-American man, approximately 6 feet tall, 200 pounds; wearing dark pants, a bulky jacket, and a dark colored baseball cap. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
