FORT WORTH, TX -- A North Texas man must serve life in prison without parole for killing his ex-girlfriend, her older sister and the mother of the two women.

Cedric D. McGinnis Jr. pleaded guilty to capital murder in all three deaths and was sentenced Thursday in Fort Worth in a plea deal.

McGinnis acknowledged killing 21-year-old April Serrano, 35-year-old Kathy DeLeon and 48-year-old Cynthia Serrano in their Fort Worth home.

The sisters were shot during the June 2014 attack and robbery. Their mother was shot and stabbed.

The 23-year-old McGinnis told police that his former girlfriend let him sneak into the house so they could have sex, but then he planned to rob the women.

Some stolen items were later recovered at a home in Haltom City where McGinnis had family.
