SUV crashes through fence, nearly hits home
Several people were injured after an SUV driver somehow lost control and nearly hit a home in SE Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There were some scary moments in southeast Houston Sunday afternoon when an SUV crashed through a fence and almost slammed into a house.

The accident happened off the South Loop east just east of Martin Luther King.

The SUV was eastbound and for an unknown reason that vehicle suddenly careened off the freeway, all the way across the shoulder, several lanes of traffic on the feeder road and through the back fence to the property. The SUV took out a power pole and the fence. Police say there were three people inside the SUV.

An eyewitness to the accident grabbed a hammer to pound through the SUV windows to free those who were trapped inside.

"I was kind of a little bit scared. Somebody had to help them out. I couldn't just leave them in there," said eyewitness Walter Jones.

The SUV stopped somehow, just short of hitting the house. The bumper was just inches from the bedroom here where people were asleep inside. Amazingly no one was in the backyard when the SUV drove through.

We don't know the conditions of the three people who were inside that SUV and it's too early to say what caused the driver to lose control.
