Missouri City officials blame extreme heat, sprinklers for water pressure issues

MISSOURI CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Some residents in Sienna Plantation are experiencing low water pressure in the mornings.

According to a spokesman for Si Environmental, sprinklers are to blame. He said because of the high temperatures, residents are watering their lawns more often in the mornings.

"It takes me longer to do my dishes, it takes me longer to take a shower," Heather Harrison said, "Just the time loss is something you notice. Everything takes just a little longer, and like I said, with school starting next week, I don't have that time."

The water pressure is not low enough to cause problems for firefighters in an emergency.

In Texas, all public water distribution systems are required by state law to maintain a minimum pressure of 35 psi throughout the system and to maintain a minimum of 20 psi under fire flow conditions. A spokesman for Missouri City said the city conducted testing in response to two resident calls. The pressure was found to be 55 psi, which is well above state requirements.

A spokesman for Si Environmental said residents concerned about water pressure can try watering their lawns later in the morning.
