Diesel fuel spill shuts down part of Houston Ship Channel

Cleanup underway in Ship Channel
The Ship Channel was closed a little before 8am because of the spill

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Part of the Houston Ship Channel is shut down due to a diesel spill.

The Coast Guard Incident Management Division as well as Garner Environmental Services are on scene conducting cleanup after a reported 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the South Central Cement facility into the ship channel around Greens Bayou.

Officials closed the ship channel around 7:57am. They expect to reopen the waterway later this morning.

There are no reported injuries.
