The discovery happened around 7:30 a.m. in the 31700 block of Harmony Heights Lane near Bauer Road outside of Hockley.
Construction workers arrived at the location and found the body of their co-worker, a man in his early 40s, according to Capt. Joe Ambriz with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The man had been shot multiple times, Ambriz said.
The victim was later identified as 42-year-old Rigoberto Barron. He was last seen alive around 5:30 p.m. Friday and the shooting could have happened anytime between then and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Ambriz.
Homicide and crime scene investigators were on the scene working to find out what led to Barron's death.
Residents in the area had reported hearing gunshots in the neighborhood at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday.
