HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One apartment unit was significantly damaged by fire at an apartment complex in northwest Houston.

Firefighters were called to the Nueva Villa Apartments in the 4200 block of Sherwood Lane around 2:18am this morning.

The chief decided to pull a second alarm because he feared the fire would spread. The 60 firefighters on scene were able to prevent that from happening, containing the fire to just the one unit. Up to 10 other units also sustained smoke damage.

The residents of the two story building all self evacuated. There are no injuries.

The Houston Arson Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
