A two-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital after he was shot in the arm in northeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A toddler is recovering after being shot in the arm Friday afternoon.

He and a woman were shot in a second floor unit at the North Forest Trails Apartments at Tidwell and Wayside.

Police tell Eyewitness News that the man in the apartment with them drove them to LBJ Hospital, and the toddler was then airlifted to Children's Memorial Herman where we're told he's in critical but stable condition.

Houston police say around 1:20pm, a woman called saying her nephew had been shot in the arm.

"All we know this far is that we have a 27 year old female and a two year old inside the apartment along with another adult male. And the female and the male ended up being shot," says Sgt. Jack Greenwood.

Both were shot in the arm. The man in the apartment, who police believe is the woman's boyfriend, drove them to LBJ hospital. Sgt. Jack Greenwood says what happened inside is still a question mark.

"We don't know how they were shot," Greenwood said.

This was the second shooting at the complex this month. A man was fatally shot in the parking lot in a different part of the community on May 5. Neighbors say fear is starting to take root here.

"Like three weeks ago, a dead body by my apartment," says Karina Alanis. "I don't even feel safe."

"I don't feel safe neither, over here at all," adds Daisy Little. "I'm gonna love probably this summer."

CPS is also investigating. They tell us the little boy is "at the hospital and safe." They don't believe there were any other children in the home.
