Overpaying in rent? Study looks at average rent prices across Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Think you're paying too much for rent? A new study from Apartmentlist.com takes a look at the average rent prices in neighborhoods around Houston

Within the city limits, downtown rents have the highest average price. A two bedroom unit will cost you an average of $2,530 per month. The Afton Oaks-River Oaks neighborhood is second at $2,400. Memorial, Washington Avenue-Memorial Park and Neartown-Montrose round out the top five. All have rents that average above $2,000 per month.

On the flip side, people living in Northside-Northline, Greater Greenspoint and Ost-South Union have the cheapest rents in the city. A two-bedroom unit there averages between $600 and $700 per month.

Looking outside the city limits, Pearland is the most expensive suburb, where a two-bedroom apartment will cost you $1,400 a month. The Woodlands and Pasadena round out the top three. Spring is the cheapest suburb with rent averaging $1,000 per month.
