Hoping third time is the charm
The Deer Park golf team is headed to their third straight state tournament

DEER PARK, TX (KTRK) -- The Deer Park golf team is headed to their third straight state tournament. They are still searching for that illustrious championship, but they like their chances.

Senior Tate Fleming has been a big part of their success, and wants to end his time at Deer Park with all the glory.

"I've learned that I have to work hard, that I can't rely on everyone," said Fleming. "It's nice now, that when I am not playing well, that I can actually rely on the other guys and know they are going to play well."

Deer Park Golf coach Mark Boyd sees something special in Fleming.

"He just committed to Dallas Baptist and he has been our most consistent player, had a few numbers in the 60's this year and has been very consistent."

Fleming recently was one of the six recipients of the Shawn Stefani Scholarship. Fleming says, "I've been playing SPGA for five years or so and it's really molded me into a good character and good player."

Fleming's younger brother, Tanner, and sister, Taylor, both play golf at Deer Park. His sister left cheerleading to focus solely on golf.

Deer Park begins their run at a state title on Monday.
