Cost of radio communication going up
Harris County is raising the rate of radio communication to local law enforcement agencies

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The cost of going digital could be a big one for emergency agencies in and around Harris County.

The county is upgrading radio communications for emergency agencies. The upgrades have to take place to remain in compliance with federal government guidelines as technology moves from analog to digital.

Harris County is in the middle of this process, with all upgrades to radios, according to the Harris County's Information Technology website, happening by the end of this year.

What those upgrades will cost to maintain is part of an ongoing discussion. The county is expecting to increase what it charges non-county customers for radio services.

There is another meeting to talk about it again later today in West Houston.
