HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Cougars are young with four sophomores and junior in their starting line-up. But with four double digit post season victories they'll ride a wave of confidence into their 4-A semi-final match-up against Houston Sterling.

Head Coach David Montano says, "We are so young. Some of these guys don't know any better. They're done a great job of meeting expectations that were set for them."

Sophomore Juaron Freeman added, "A lot of people doubted us told us we couldn't make it we stayed humble and we're here."

The Cougars focused in on winning a state title. La Marque ISD's battle to stay open maybe a little motivation changes in school district in the works after a poor academic rating.

Coach Montano will not let it affect their work on the court, "We try to tell them to work hard in everything you do work in your academic area work hard in classroom it carries over to the court."

What the Cougars do at state; will not be a factor in La Marque ISD's fight to stay open. The basketball teams success a huge boast in school and community moral.

Junior Tavier Blaine says, "I think it means a lot to me, to the team the community lot for La Marque the county.

Freeman adds," It gives us an opportunity to keep school open -- go again next year and back to back."
