A growing trend in gift giving for kids is gaining popularity and criticism.

Have you heard about gift registries for kids birthdays? They began in small boutique shops, but now major online retailers like amazon are making it easier to pick out what kids want, by having them make a list.

"When I use the registry, I get more of the gifts that I would like," said 12-year-old Tyler MacEwen.

"Our lives are so hectic right now, and anything that can save us a little bit of time, we're all in for," said Darline MacEwen, mother of three.

But this method may not work for all families. Social media sites have seen lots of people criticizing the registries as "crass" and in "poor taste."

Some even think this could make kids feel entitled, or even make them more greedy.
