Multiple people injured in shooting between neighbors
An ongoing dispute led to a shooting that injured multiple people, including a 5-year-old girl.

Mother's Day took a violent turn when deputies say two men opened fire at each other, injuring multiple other people, including a 5-year-old girl in a northwest Harris County neighborhood.

Authorities said they responded to reports of a multi-person shooting Sunday just after 9 p.m. on Bonners Park and South Brenwood.

When they arrived, they found six people with gunshot wounds. One of the wounded was the child.

Deputies say a 24-year-old man who lives on Bonner Park Circle went to the home of a 62-year-old man on the same street to confront him over a disturbance at the home. The younger man left, then reportedly came back with a shotgun and fired it at the group of people gathered outside the older man's home.

"We have two individuals who had weapons. One had a shotgun and the other one had a handgun and they exchanged gunfire," Harris County Sheriff's Office Capt. Joe Ambriz said. "The individual with the shotgun ended up striking a number of individuals."

The shooting is something a neighbor and former Marine Gerald Green said he never expected to hear.

"I spent 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. When I heard it last night, I knew what it was. Again, I never expected to hear it in this neighborhood," Green said.

According to deputies, they do not know what led to the shooting of the six people, but they believe it started a long time ago.

Deputies say the shotgun blast struck three women and a 5-year-old girl, as well as the 62-year-old man, who then pulled out a pistol and shot the 24-year-old man.

Authorities say none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening and they are still investigating the shooting.

"Guns,in general, are not toys. They say guns kill people, but people with guns kill people. There is nothing to play with," Green said.

Investigators say they received surveillance video of what happened at the scene and they are looking at the video to see what criminal charges will be filed.
