Souper Bowl of Caring underway
Canned and dried foods are filling up bags and boxes, for those who really need it.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's that time of year again, where you can help feed those who are going hungry. Today kicks off the 2015 Souper Bowl of Caring.

For 25 years the Houston area has participated in this national program. And the Houston Food Bank is joining forces with the community, to feed those tackling hunger.

Once again HEB, Kroger & Randall's, along with the Houston Texans, are taking part, to make it easier for you to also help. The goal this year, collect enough for 2.5 million meals.

Brian Greene with the Houston Food Bank says most people don't realize their neighbor may be going hungry. He believes this effort , helps to get people to their next meal.

Sarah Kate Thomas a youth volunteer for four years and now on the Board of the National Youth Advisory Council.

"Sixty-six thousand people in the greater Houston area go hungry every day and 5,000 of those people are children and it's just a terrible thing for a child to go hungry. So, I really want to remedy that and if we all work together we can all make a difference," Thomas said.

If you would like to help, the Souper Bowl of Caring runs from January 14- February 1.

Pick up an already sorted bag at any HEB , Kroger or Randall's, or make a monetary donation at the check out stand.
