ARANSAS PASS, Texas (KTRK) -- A driver is accused of injecting herself with heroin before plowing into people who were gathered at a donation distribution site in Harvey-stricken Aransas Pass.

Police said three people were struck by the vehicle in a shopping complex parking lot Wednesday evening.

Officers detained a 55-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a white GMC truck, according to police. Ruby Elizabeth Gray was arrested on three counts of intoxication assault.

"Just prior to the crash, Ruby was suspected of injected an unknown quantity of heroin which severely hampered her ability to drive," the police department stated on its website.

A witness at the scene said the driver crashed into a donation distribution site for people affected by Hurricane Harvey.

On Facebook, Rick Baird said one of the people hit suffered internal bleeding and cracked ribs, while another had a broken wrist and knee cap.

The driver crashed into supplies that had been trucked into the region from Las Vegas, according to Baird.
