Elderly man killed when fire engulfs his New York City apartment

MANHATTAN, New York (KTRK) -- An elderly man is dead and a firefighter was injured when a fire ripped through a Manhattan high-rise apartment on Christmas morning.

The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m., as the city was buzzing with people waking up for holiday festivities.

The man who died has not been identified.

Firefighters said the fire was contained to the 35th floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
