Aggies give Jimbo Fisher a Texas sized welcome party
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KTRK) -- Texas A&M students and fans gave their new football coach a Texas sized welcome.
Sunday afternoon, Jimbo Fisher arrived at the private airport in College Station.
As he stepped onto the tarmac, he was greeted by fans, students, and the Aggie marching band.
"I didn't even know we had a maroon carpet," Texas A&M student Tyler Anderson said. "I didn't know we even had an A&M branded private jet."
Fisher comes from Florida State University where he coached for the past eight years. At FSU, Fisher won a national title.
But on Friday, FSU announced Fisher resigned from his position and was heading to Texas A&M.
As soon as the news broke, some students couldn't wait to greet him.
"It shows what the Aggie family is," Texas A&M student Tyler Campbell said. "You're family from the moment you come in here. When you come in here as a freshman, people welcome you in, and that's the same way. You're family when you step in here."
Getting Fisher to College Station wasn't cheap.
The school reportedly offered a 10-year, $75 million contract.
If approved, he'll make $6.5 million more a year than the school's president, and $7 million more than the men's basketball coach.
"It's definitely a large contract," Campbell said. "We'll see how it goes. Usually coaches don't get that much."
"That's a lot of money," Texas A&M student Sam Grimes said. "I'm not paying it so I'm not too disappointed."
A Texas sized contract to go along with the welcome party to match.

"Whenever you pay $75 million for someone, I would expect a maroon carpet or anything like that," Texas A&M student Brian Keeney said.
Fans won't have to wait long to see Fisher again.
The board is expected to approve his contract Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.
The university will then hold a news conference with its new coach at 10:00 a.m.
